Make a Simple {New Baby Top} – Free Seam Pattern & Tutorial This is a free-size pattern to make a simple top that a newborn baby can use during the first weeks of his life, when the baby needs some soft and simple clothing against the cut umbilical cord. If you want to sew gifts for your friend or cousin or neighbor, this is a welcome gift as most of the available clothes are too big for newborn teens or too restrictive or hard to put or remove or last on the baby's skin. The upper part has the rear aperture with two loops on the back and can be put on the baby simply slipping hands through the armchairs on the top; you just have to slightly tilt the baby to tie the back ties. No velcro or snaps that can irritate the skin of the newborn baby. Simply soft cotton fabric against your soft skin. This upper part is not strictly for babies who move and begin to grab things with their hands. As the upper ties on the back with straps and the baby can get hold of the straps when it starts to move, it can be dangerous. But during the two, three weeks or so, when the movement is less, this is a nice clothing that is included in your baby essentials list. Take a look at the publication Also check the tutorial to which the baby can be used up to 3-4 months. As for this pattern You can do it with the softest cotton - Soft Voile, good quality moslin thin etc. Anything to breathe. There is no synthetic or heavy fabric. Take a look at the post at the top is made in a free size with the assumption that a newborn baby will have a chest round of about 14 inches. Step 1 Count the pattern pieces according to the pattern indicated below. You can do the pattern in two ways. The first one is without side seams. It's the easiest thing since it has stitching / joints only on the shoulders. The following pattern has three pieces - front leg and two rear pieces, which will be joined in the side seams leaving an opening on the back. The pattern of the back consists of 2 pieces with 1′ extra that the front piece in the two pieces to take into account the edge turning margin. I'm doing the second pattern in this tutorial. The first is super easy as you just have to join in the shoulder stitches and the top is ready The first pattern (a piece pattern that only has to be joined in the shoulder stitching ). To cut this pattern take a 24 inch piece of fabric wide and 13 inches long. Fold the tissue in half and mark the pattern below it. The pattern near the fold is the front armrest and the cut edge is the rear opening. The Second Pattern with Side Seams You need two pieces of fabric ; One 14 inches wide and 13 inches long for the rear parts and another 12 inches wide and 13 inches long Cut the pattern from the back through the center. Step 2Stitch neckline and silences of all parts – front and back pattern pieces with a baby rudder. Nothing complicated. Just turn under the edge once. Tip near the fold as in the lower imageTrim near the foldReturn the edge and sew this. You have this very narrow edge that is right for a baby dress – the baby's hemStep 3Inside the shoulder seams and side seams. I am using French seams to finish the seams in this dress so that the baby's skin is not irritated with the cut edge of the cloth. Look at this. The French seam is nothing more than a normal seam that is sewn twice; the first time the seam is sewn with the wrong sides together (in a normal seam we sew the right sides seam together), then the seam is sewed the right sides together this time closing the cut edges within the first line of sewing. There are no cut edges exposed even inside the dress. All right. Seams are the first wrong sides togetherSeam cuts to 1/8 inch. The fabric becomes so that now the right sides are found together. Sew the next 1/4 inch stitching lineStep 4Take a 1′ wide and 5-6 inch strip fabric. Fold a short edge to the inside. Fold the tissue back to the center along the long edges, then fold through the center to make simple straps. Point in place Step 5I count the rear opening of the back pattern pieces twice inside. Keep the strap inside the fold. Pin instead. Stupid. Make a x-point to make the belt safe at the top. Another method to fix the ties is to tie the neckline and leave the balance as the links, as in the image below. Simply leave a 4-5 inch queue at the end of binding strips Step 6Hem the lower edge. Simply rotate under 1/4 inches twice and stitch. It can at the top or near the bottom edge. Make sure you're not knotting in your back with embroidered thread so that it doesn't irritate your baby's skin. I've done two to look like a You can also see this post in 10 for some reasons used regularly when embroidered clothes children How to sew newborn clothes – some tips The skin of newborns is super delicate and super sensitive. Note this when you decide to buy for clothing or do it yourself. Scottish materials or openings are a NO large. Synthetic tissue is also out. If your baby has to be in the incubation metal openings it must be avoided. With velcro one side is a bit hard and can scratch the skin of the newborn, so count it too. Avoid any edge as lace, ribbons that can also irritate the skin. Even buttons can be scratched on the silky skin You need uncomplicated clothes that will come out quickly and can be easily put on.
